Heartwood Goes to School is an educational outreach program bringing theater arts education and programming to Midcoast schools in Lincoln, Knox, Waldo and Sagadahoc counties.

The program is designed to allow K-12 students to experience many forms of performing arts including theater, mime, dance, storytelling, and puppetry. HGTS programming includes performances by professional Maine artists and theater arts workshops for students and teachers.

- Reaching over 2,700 K-12 students
- In 15 schools across 4 counties from Bath to Lincolnville
- Providing 72 days of theater arts instruction during 2009-2010
- Averaging 4 days per school
- Bringing dance, mime, puppetry, theater, storytelling and more to schools!
- Reaching low-income populations with the arts
- 39% of the students HGTS serves are eligible
for free and reduced lunch. - Creating original theater productions based on classic literature
- Providing theater arts curriculum that exceeds MEA and National standards
- Collaborating with teachers to meet educational and character objectives
- Encouraging expanded thinking and confidencethrough the performing arts
- Employing Maine artists and introducing students to the arts as a vocation
- Helping students to explore their potential in lifeand in the arts
